In a press conference this afternoon, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced changes to NJ Transit’s service this summer.
In response to Amtrak’s summer work plan, and a reduction in the amount of trains that Penn Station can handle, the Governor announced that all Morris & Essex line trains would begin and terminate in Hoboken Terminal. This means that there will be no service on these lines to and from New York Penn during the work period. As a boon, M&E customers will be receiving free transfers to and from Hoboken PATH and ferries, as well as fare cuts between 56% and 63%. Per Christie, NJ Transit will be releasing updated schedules in the first week of June.
